Acid base titrations are used to investigate a number of theoretical aspects of chemistry - equilibrium calculations, using assumptions to solve complex sets of equations, selecting the best way to determine the end point of a titration. They are also used to discuss practical aspects of measurements - titrations, titration errors, errors introduced by adding indicators to be able to keep track of the titration. Theoti contains features that help investigate all of the above, and more.

• Theoti can handle up to 8 simultaneous titrations, each consisting of up to 3 analytes, and up to 3 titrant electrolytes. See what happens if the sodium hydroxide titrant contains carbon dioxide! Titration definitions can be prepared in advance and then easily retrieved for instant classroom access.



• one or two icons are used to denote titration curves. Icons include strong, weak, acid, base (all shown at left), as well as numerous others
  
  
• data on up to 200 electrolytes and 25 indicators may be entered. Data on 70 electrolytes, including 14 indicators are included

Life-like Look & Feel

• a titration setup (shown at top of this page) shows the colour of a selected indicator at the current pH. Moving to a higher volume causes drops to fall from the burette. On multimedia PCs sound effects are used to enhance functionality

• indicator transition ranges for one or all indicators are shown on the curve(s). A test tube rack shows all indicators at the current pH



• simulation mode goes through the titration drop by drop, while the contents of the beaker and the indicators in the test tube rack change colour
